Sam Alfonsi founded College Bound in 1958,
more than a half-century ago. As Founder and Director, Sam is involved
with every student here at College Bound. Our Numerous services
are all delivered one-on-one, private no groups. We maintain hours
seven days a week to accommodate busy kids and their parents. Sam
is a licensed reading specialist who served as reading specialist
for the Marple Newtown Schools for 33 years. Also, Sam was specialist
consultant to the Federal Government's Keys to Learning Program.
His opinion pieces on educational issues have appeared in the New
York Times, Washington Post, Philadelphia Bulletin, Philadelphia
Inquirer, Catholic Digest, in total 1300 opinion pieces. Sam is
often on the lecture circuit throughout the country, speaking to
educational Organizations, training teachers, college campus lectures
and professional societies. Sam is presently compiling the best
of his columns to be placed in book form and printed by College
Bound Press. A credit that Sam holds most dearly is the fact that
his three children all chose to follow in his footsteps and become
part of the College Bound family tradition. We pride ourselves on
being a family approach to meeting the educational needs of our
many students here at College Bound.

Sam has studied at the University of Maryland and
Temple University in the Schools of Business Management. Sam has
also studied at West Chester University in Educational Counseling.
Sam brings an extensive background in the area
of studying personality type and how different individuals maximize
learning in different environments. Sam has adopted a philosophy
taken from Realty Therapy which is used widely in Japan regarding
the management of business systems. Sam had worked closely with
his father for 5 years before recognizing what College Bound could
bring to the Chester county area. Sam was also a collegiate athlete,
so he also brings a motivational style to learning that helps students
compete in the classroom and in taking the PSAT/SAT. For the past
25 years Sam has developed close relationships with students, families,
counselors, coaches and teachers in the area. Sam has even worked
with the children of his father's past students, making College
Bound a true family tradition, and continuing the reputation
of the oldest provider of educational needs in the nation!
Sam Jr. has worked with past students who are now
in such organizations as the NFL, NBA, QVC, NYSE, several Fortune
Five Hundred Companies, as well as other professionals who keep
in touch with the College Bound family. This diverse
network has helped current College Bound students attain top tier
college and university placement.
Over the last 56 years College Bound has helped
students receive millions of dollars in scholarship monies through
performance on the Scholastic Assessment Test, The Preliminary Scholastic
Assessment Test, and as well as helping students attain grade point
averages that meet guide lines for merit scholarship.
Sam only works with a select few before each national
Scholastic Assessment Test date. Emphasis is on diagnosing need,
developing a plan of action, and implementation of that plan in
a very personalized approach. Being proactive in the process is
paramount! College Bound does have a waitlist so it is best
to act early!
